If you have some free time and want to improve your skills, why not do some online training courses.

You can identify the skills or knowledge that you will need in a future job or career by reading job descriptions and person specifications.

  • Generation UK Free training courses (many leading to certification)and support to get into employment. Courses may have age restrictions.
  • Want to learn a new skill while at home? Find free, high quality digital and numeracy courses in The Skills Toolkit.
  • Future Learn Have a wide range of free courses available from Marketing Analytics and Project Management to Digital Skills for the Workplace.
  • The open University Have a diverse range of free courses covering subjects including languages, psychology, innovation, management, and law.
  • edX has free online courses from MIT, Harvard and more
  • ICAEW university student scheme Students can join for £25 and get access to study materials throughout their degree to work toward a certificate. You don’t have to take the certificate if you don’t want to but could learn a lot from the online study. Especially useful for students interested in business/finance.
  • Harvard are offering 60 courses for free online on many different topics, e.g. data science.
  • Coursera.org - some free online courses are available, please note there may be a charge for courses as well.
