Behind Manchester's Doors: Graduates

A brand new opportunity for graduates to gain practical work experience in Manchester!

The Careers Service is offering a limited number of places on its Behind Manchester's Doors programme for 2023 and summer 2024 graduates.

Behind Manchester's Doors: Graduates will run from Monday, 24 to Friday, 28 June 2024. Each day during the week will focus on a particular sector:

  • Monday, 24 June: Finance and business
  • Tuesday, 25 June: Arts, creative and heritage
  • Wednesday, 26 June: Charities and public sector
  • Thursday, 27 June: Marketing and communications
  • Friday, 28 June: Law

Exact days/times are subject to change, but all work experience will take place on the week commencing 24 June.

On each day, a small group of graduates will have the opportunity to visit organisations in Manchester operating within a sector that they're interested in. Please note: graduates will only be allowed to attend one sector-focus day.

As part of the visits, graduates will have the opportunity to:

  • Visit two organisations within Manchester city centre operating within one of the above sectors,
  • Gain a 'behind the front door' view of these organisations,
  • Find out more about two different organisations and their graduate opportunities,
  • Network with employers and other graduates.
  • Gain practical work experience by partaking in a mini-project or case study where they will work in groups on a live issue that is important to the organisation.

Applications will open on Monday, 3 June, and close on Sunday, 16 June. More information will be released soon.

To find out more, you are welcome to attend our Behind Manchester's Doors: Graduates information session on Wednesday, 12 June (11 - 11:30 am) online.

As an additional opportunity, a small group of graduates are also in with the chance of joining a two-day digital skills bootcamp with Sharp Futures. Taking place in Sharp Futures’ Manchester-based offices, the bootcamp will take place on Tuesday, 18 and Wednesday, 19 June (10am-4pm both days). Find out more about the bootcamp here. To take part, let us know when completing the Behind Manchester's Doors applications form (which will go live on Monday, 3 June).
